Kingsham Primary School

A Fabulous World Book Day

Previous StoryNext Story

What an incredible day!

We have had such a wonderful day today celebrating our favourite books, dressing up and hearing some truly exquisite poetry recitals.

Have a look at the photos below and read the blog from Suzanna Troy who is a governor at our school who had the most fantastic morning.

One of the best things about being a governor is being invited into school for special occasions that I would otherwise miss out on.  Today’s ‘Poetry by Heart’ Festival was a great example.  I had to work for my invitation though and it was really challenging work sitting on the judges panel and scoring the many fantastic poetry performances.

The morning got off to a great start with Ms Leslie and Ms Edwards performing poems that they learnt when they were at primary school.  Then we were treated to Miss Leslie’s poetry group, fresh from their win at the recent Festival for Music, Dance and Speech,  performing 2 poems about Noah’s Ark.  This was followed by some wonderful Reception/Key Stage 1 whole class performances and then finally the single and small group performances.  The whole school attended and everyone was spellbound, you could have heard a pin drop, that is of course except for the laughter during the various comic poem performances including notably ‘There was an old lady who swallowed a fly’.

It was very difficult  to choose the  winners to go forward to the ‘Poetry by Heart’ national competition as all those who took part would have been worthy ambassadors for Kingsham however after some heated discussion the judges came to an agreement.

Well done to all those who took part.  I feel very privileged to have been part of what was a truly amazing occasion.  I have already booked my place on the judging panel for next year’s festival!

Parents/carers, I urge you to ask your children about what they have been doing during the Kingsham poetry week and maybe you could perform your favourite poem for them!
