Please have a read all of the news from a busy Half Term

19th October 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

What a fabulous half term we have had! The children can be very proud of the huge number of achievements that we have celebrated across the school. As you will see from the newsletter, we have had a number of visitors into the school to enrich the curriculum. It is a pleasure to provide these additional opportunities as the children have responded so well to our expert visitors.

Please remember that Monday 31st October is an INSET day so the children will return on Tuesday 1st November after half term. Friday 25th November is also an INSET day.

Meet the Teacher Afternoons and consultation appointments

It was lovely to see how well attended the meet the teacher afternoons were. As we always say, we want to ensure we develop a partnership with all of our families so that your children can be as successful as possible in all aspects of their lives.

The dates for the parent/carer consultation appointments are:

  • Tuesday 8th November 2022 - 3:30 – 6pm
  • Thursday 17th November 2022 – 3:30 – 6pm

Bookings opened on Parentmail on Monday 17th October.

SEND Coffee Morning

BookFest

The school was visited by three authors for BookFest this year. The children took park in a range of workshops with the authors and raised some fabulous questions. It was a joy to hear the children ask about the inspiration and ideas of the authors and to see the enthusiasm from the children when speaking to these writers.

Reading

As you know, last year the children of Kingsham Primary School read over 101 million words!! We are currently up to 14 165 875 words which has exceeded last year’s total at this stage in the year.

Please continue to support us by:

  • Reading to your children,
  • Reading with your children and
  • Listening to them read.

When this is done five times a week, it makes a massive difference!

Picking up your Children

Can we take this opportunity to remind parents and carers to pay close attention to their children when picking them up after school. There have been occasions where dangers have occurred when a child has not been closely supervised when leaving school at the end of the day. We know there are lots of cars and people around and we want to ensure that children are kept safe as they make their way to their cars, homes or over to the park.

Brent Lodge

We were lucky enough to have Alex, a representative of Brent Lodge wildlife hospital, visit the school to tell us all about the work they do for the local wildlife and how we can support them in this too. A huge thank you to everyone who donated items from the wish list – everything was deeply appreciated by Brent Lodge.

Year 6 Residential Trip

As you will have seen from the updates that Mr Williams posted, Year 6 had a fabulous time on their residential trip to Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. It was such an excellent opportunity for the children to try new things and build vital teamwork which they will use throughout the school year. My enormous thank you to all of the staff who gave up their time to support with such a successful trip.

Community Event

There is to be a community event on Tuesday 25th October (during half term). It is going to be hosted on the Whyke Oval from 2-4pm where there will be a range of visitors from the local community providing some fun activities for the children.
